More Stunning Weather

Cold nights, heaps of snow making and mostly sunny days. There was, as one kind punter put it, 'dust on crust' yesterday and the new snow (up to 5cms in places ;-) plus blue sky brought everyone out and I was well back in the queue once more. The new snow was light but the base was hard and if not smooth then very crunchy. Something had gone seriously wrong with the snow making on True Blue, otherwise the groomers were best.

If you could find a smooth base off piste then the new snow was a very enjoyable. After coffee I was invited to do my first traditional run to Dead Horse Gap for the season. I was glad I had held out this long as it was great, except the final descent. The drop into Bogong was on long smooth untracked slopes and a sheer delight to ski on. The run across the ridge was smooth and fast - no polling required. The last drop unfortunately was cut up with old frozen ruts with a dusting of fresh on top. We all took wide lines trying to avoid the crust but to no avail.

This morning I did one run from Karels, over the Rim Run and down to the Basin only to discover the off piste was still dust on crust, just with less dust. True Blue was beautiful today as were the groomers on Supertrail, Basin and Exhibition. World Cup was somewhat cut up by race club.

There are races (Thredbo Cup) on in Thredbo over the weekend. If the weather pattern holds I think I'll go bush, may be even for a kite fly if the wind is right and my back responds to the pain killers ;-)

I'm hearing horror stories (if you are a snow rider) of long queues at Perisher. Of course this is good news if you have a business there. Meanwhile, there are still vacancies in Thredbo even into mid August.

Update: It's obvious by the lack of snow this year that the Carbon Tax isn't working ;-)
Seriously, why would UN scientists pushing the "science" of global warming due to human intervention, want immunity from criminal prosecution? Click here to find out more.
