4th Report in a Week

Being a little slack and a lot busy, I am now just getting around to reporting about yesterday's mini adventure.

The weather has been superb since last Saturday and yesterday Marion, Lynne, Ray and I ventured out beyond Thredbo.

We all had different agendas and I feel I can speak for the others in saying that they were all achieved.

My agenda was to ski the still untracked North Face of Sig Hill. Ray went snow shoeing, Marion climbed Signature Hill with me and Lynne went out to Kosi Lookout.

The base seemed to have softened a little since Sunday and made some turns a little more technical and inconsistent. The main face of Signature Hill still had some firm wind drifts as well as breakable soft. The trip out and back was easier than I had expected as we found the creek crossings had a firm layer of snow.

The snow guns were on again last night. Like the previous night, a temperature inversion meant only the lower slopes were being topped up. The forecasts say more snow is coming this Sunday :-)

Perisher have announced that they will open this weekend. So far, I've heard nothing from Thredbo. In any case, the long weekend (just a week away) is looking like a fun one.

Listening to the NSW State Premier (Barry O'Farrell) last night, ski touring, snowshoeing and hiking out on the main range might soon be a dying art with hunters to be allowed to go shooting in the Kosciuszko National Park. Of course, if the NPWS had done their job and removed the feral cats, dogs, rabbits, foxes, deer, goats and pigs this wouldn't have been on the cards. Shame all round.
