Turf To Surf

On a whim or as others might put it - an act of desperation, I rode up Slowgums chairlift on Thursday and then climbed out of the resort over the grass and rocks with skis on my back.

I had awoken to a thick fog on Thursday and realised that this meant the forecast rains were probably not going to happen. By 8:30am the fog had burnt off to reveal a clear blue sky. This could be my last chance to ski before the returning rains washed away the last remaining snow.

Signature Hill, as the photos below will show, has lost most of its snow. I chose another drift for my little excursion. I had completed seven runs, each encompassing between 17 and 21 turns as well as 225 steps back up each time, before approaching big fluffy clouds made me decide to give it away. I did not relish the thought of the chairlift being closed due to possible thunderstorms and then having to walk off the mountain in ski boots.

My morning was fun. I'm not sure if it was the exercise or pain killers but my back felt good after the ski. However, I really think that was my last ski this year.

On Friday I packed my car and headed down the coast. Picked up Annie in Bega and then spent a lovely weekend in Narooma -warm and sunny on both Friday and Saturday followed by a wet Sunday. I had my fill of seafood but did not venture into the water, which is still pretty chilly.
