Heavy Traffic

As a follow up to my Saturday report here is how the long weekend finished up.

The Saturday night fireworks were spectacular and the weather generous for the event.

Sunday's snow was damp and much softer than Saturday's. This was probably due to a misty fog that rolled in over the Alps. The crowds were still very noticeable despite the grey skies. I went out for Poodle Fluff - hair of the dog - to work out the tight muscles from my first real ski since last November.

Sunday afternoon's Blessing Of The Snow was not well attended. Over the past couple of years the church was close to packed - probably because there was little or no natural snow on the ground. This year punters and locals alike were too busy skiing.

Sunday evening's Chamber of Commerce drinks and nibbles was well appreciated by all. Special thanks to KT and Yalumba.

Today was grey and damp again. Saturday had truly been the pick of the long weekend. I didn't venture out till after lunch - something I rarely do but it is just too early in the season to start slacking-off. The conditions were poor. Mostly due, I suspect, to the huge crowds on the limited runs open. The term "Heavily Trafficked Areas" applied to much of the cover as the crowds simply wore through the early season, thin, soft base.

Once it becomes cool and dry enough, snow making will rectify the problem. A fresh dump of snow would be even better. Meanwhile, we look towards the upper Supertrail, hoping Snowgums chair will open allowing skiing from top to BunnyWalk station.

The new ticket turnstiles were "tweaked" over Saturday night to reduce the "delay" some were experiencing. Yes Wazza, there was a problem with the turnstile you complained about. I heard of others having troubles with their new passes but overall I think the transition to RFID cards went very smoothly.

The forecasters are all in disagreement with each other - again ;-) I'll go with light snow till Thursday or Friday when a bigger system should / might push through. Otherwise some touring could be on the cards.

Ron, get well soon, out of hospital and back to Thredbo.

Robin, glad to hear you are out of hospital. We are missing you on the slopes.
