Almost At The End Of The Road

Blue sky days and high temps have been melting the snow pack rapidly and the 26mm of rain on Wednesday night really sped up the process. The Thredbo River is up 1/2 a metre and the grass is green.

Yesterday (Thursday) was the last day of skiing the Supertrail. It had held up fairly well prior to the rain but I must admit I was surprised to see it open yesterday. I did it first up and then to get off the mountain when I had tired of The Basin.

Today there was only The Basin to ski. It was groomed late this morning and despite the overnight freeze, the groomed was soft from the start. The off piste remained firm while I was out which, wasn't long.

There is still a lot of snow in the resort. It was a pity to see work abandoned on the Supertrail. It would have been a wonderful marketing coup to have kept it open till close of lifts next Sunday. Sure Thredbo has outstayed everything else in Australia but if you are going to stick your head above the crowd why not go that extra bit and really stick out above the competition with Top-To-Bottom skiing right to the end.

All that said, well done Thredbo. Two days to go and the Basin will easily see that through. There have been a lot of tourers heading out from Eagles Nest over the past few days. I guess I will be joining them soon.

It should be obvious but I'm just a slow learner ;-)

Grump for the day: Have you noticed all the TV programs complaining about the price of electricity but not a mention that NSW electricity is owned by the state government and that your vote could change the price of electricity? Are the journalists deliberately hiding the facts or just plain stupid?

Once upon a time (in a galaxy far, far away) journalists exposed the truth in an attempt to better the life of their readers not to just beat-up and try to scare the suckers still listening to them.
