Fast and Firm and Sometimes Frozen

What a week we have had. Temperatures have been as low as -8C and windchills down below -15C. There has been wind and light breezes, boiler plate, firm and soft. There was a little rain early Wednesday morning that snap froze everything and had ski patrol closing off piste and even delaying the start of lifts due to the extreme conditions. Of course it eventually softened.

Generally it has been quite cold on the mountain this week and I've been dressed in all my winter layers, even wearing my neck warmer on Tuesday, which being a rare grey sky day had the wind chill way down there. I've only got hot when climbing slopes enroute to DHG etc.

Surprisingly, this morning, after dropping to -8C overnight, was not boilerplate but really nice carving snow on great groomed runs from first chair.

The lower slopes are slowly melting away but the groomers have kept the Supertrail is great condition. The upper slopes are in amazing shape and the main range looks superb. I still haven't pulled out the rock hoppers.

The bottom of the DHG run has receded somewhat meaning you have to dismount and walk the last bit. Meanwhile the bobsled is open for those who have had enough skiing.

There is still a lot of main range touring to do and just may be I'll get the kite out this year.

The crowds are non existent and we have had great fun with many a fast run down the Supertrail and World Cup before the base softens.

You've still got a little over a week to make use of the in-resort runs. Parking and finding a bed is not an issue. There are all sorts of good deals on offer.
