101 Excuses For Not Starting Kosi Chair On Time

It is now getting beyond a joke and listening to the guests in the lift lines it is now becoming an embarrassment for Thredbo. Today’s delay in starting Kosciuszko Express was a broken chair (number 116) that had to be racked off before we could get on.

The hill was crowded from first run on – and I was on the fifth chair this morning. No, I didn’t go to Snowgums but may be that’s why World Cup as well as Super Trail were well tracked before we got to the top.

Race club had lower World Cup fenced off before we could get to it and so after only two runs down the front I saw Karels was open and I quickly got out of the resort. The weather was perfect but I was over dressed. This was a good test of the new helmet – the sweat test. The skullcap helped wick away the moisture and the helmet vents worked well.

The snow beyond Karels was dry and difficult to walk on so I chose to use my skins for each and every ascent. I enjoyed the company of my ski buddy, Ian Pod, who helped me up the hills with some ancient Pink Floyd tracks.

There was so much to choose from. Which untracked soft dry coated slope to do. I tried to do them all but by 10:30 caffeine deficiency had me back at Eagles Nest for a quickie. I hadn’t planned on the quickie but was collected by Ray, Lynne & Jax for a run to Dead Horse Gap. As I hadn’t been for a ski to DHG this season I sculled my long black. The run was nice but even though we found untracked turns, the lower slopes were nothing compared to what I spent my early morning on.

Forecasts have new snow around the 21st of July. Sponars should open tomorrow and will be welcomed as possibly the busiest weekend of the season hits Thredbo.

Who wants to take a bet on Kosi chair opening at 8:30am tomorrow?

What? You want a grump as well ;-)
