Speed Limit Warning!

Be very aware that the speed limit has been changed on the Alpine Way at Penderlea Hill. It is now 80ph both sides of the hill. There were NO advisory signs indicating any change when I went through on Tuesday and no new sign posts. All very bad form and I encourage you to do as I do – lodge a written complaint with local member Steve Whan.

At last the temperature and humidity level have dropped enough to allow for significant snowmaking during the night. The cover on High Noon has improved and the gravel entrance is now completely covered with white stuff. Skiers’ right was the go today from top to bottom. Merritts is good in snowmaking areas but Squatters Run is quite bare in places.

There are plans to have Supertrail (and World Cup) open by the weekend and may be as early as tomorrow (Friday) if possible.

Monday was nice. Tuesday was grey and damp and I didn’t bother going out, while other commitments kept me off the slopes yesterday, which was like today – sunny, cool and calm – perfect conditions for being out on the mountain.

The forecast doesn’t look promising for new snow until the middle of next week. Off piste conditions are now reported as firm. I’ll try to get out back in the next few days and will report back.

Grump: Personally, I’m against the drop in speed limits and the ever lengthening of unbroken lines on the Alpine Way between Jindabyne and the park entrance. When modern motor vehicles are greatly improved in traction, handling and braking abilities there should be NO reason to drop speed limits. If there has been an increase in accidents then it is the poor driver training that is to blame, not the road, the vehicles nor the speed limit.
Dropping speed limits will not prevent idiots doing what they do – they don’t obey (or know) the road rules in the first place. It just impacts on the rest of us.
