A Good Light Show for a Poor Event
Following winds from the north west that deposited a layer of red dust over the general area, drizzle started on Saturday night and then we were treated to a spectacular light show, which went on for hours as the winds and rain intensified.
Winds up to 125kph and 44mm of rain were recorded on the KT weather station over Saturday night and Sunday morning. Lifts started late this morning as further thunderstorms rolled by. I didn’t bother going out today. I could see some of the rain affected slopes without having to get wet inspecting them any closer.
There have been a number of trials for the company this winter. Following a string of groomer breakdowns, I was surprised to see emergency works going on under the Supertrail on Saturday – something to do with a blocked pipe or so I was told.

The forecast is still not pleasing but we may get some snow – possibly not enough to keep everything open. I suspect this latest rainfall will provide the company with the excuse to start shutting down parts of the resort, as I suspect will already be happening in the other resorts as well.
Hopefully we will get a repeat of what happened after the 100mm of rainfall a couple of Sundays ago – cold temps fresh snow and windblown drifts. The week following the 100mm rainfall produced some of the best skiing of the season. I don’t think the fat lady is ready to ski just yet.
