Blown Out

Not your ski boots but the lifts. Gale Force winds have been replaced by Storm Force – a category that I am unfamiliar with. Let’s just say bl**dy strong. Once again many lifts have been closed due to the wind, at least Slowbums was operating this morning but as for training runs for tomorrow’s Top To Bottom, well the snow was slick up top and very slushy on the lower half.

Although wind chills are low, the winds are in fact warm and the snow pack is suffering from the hair dryer effect. Luckily there is a good depth to the upper slopes and runs with man made snow and the cover remains good if not slushy. Off piste areas, particularly on the lower slopes are showing some melt down.

Snow showers are predicted over the next few days. Then of course there is Kerry’s Annual Birthday Dump. Within a couple of days either side of August 15th there will be a reasonable dump of fresh snow – it’s just one of those things that happens every year.

With all this talk of global warming I would like to offer a solution. Position snow guns over as much of the planet as possible and by covering the landmass with a layer of white snow, we could reflect much of the sun’s heat. Failing that, we could ask the artist Christo to cover the land in white plastic to attain a similar affect.
