First Ski For June 2007
I bought my new lift pass on Friday and had to wait until Saturday to try it out. Four of us with skis and Marion still relegated to snow shoes (since the recent knee surgery) went up Kosi Express and walked (and skinned and shoed) out to Signature Hill. We knew the weather was closing in as we had just heard that Mt Hotham was being ‘dumped on’.
The snow was softer than the previous Saturday but much more plentiful. In my rush I had forgotten my skins and was left fumbling around in knee-deep snow in places, until I lucked upon a boot pack put in by one or more boarders on the previous day.
As expected the weather rolled in and the light went very flat making our descent more cautious than planned. The snow was very nice – a little creamy. We hit no rocks, although their presence was well noted and we were able to ski across the creeks and back to the bridge.
Most of the forecast snow showers did not appear over the weekend but the forecast still looks promising for the next week.

Next weekend is the official start to the season. Hopefully we will get more snowmaking – there has not been much in the past few days or night.
WATCH OUT for changes to speed limits before and in the national park!
See you on Friday Flat next weekend. And a special “get well soon” to Wazza who underwent foot surgery last Friday.
