Summer and Winter
After three days of late spring-like weather in Sydney (yes, I've been to the big smoke) I returned to find that I hadn't missed much in Thredbo this week.
Unseasonably warm days have left the snow very soft and last night's temperature inversion meant snow was made on the lower runs. Up top could only be described as sand on concrete and was getting steadily worse as the temps rose.
Off piste was boilerplate before the sun could do its work but the most unusual thing was the temperature inversion. Plus 2C at the top and -2C in the valley. Skiing down the mountain you would run into to the cold air mass like hitting a wall. This cold air mass continued to rise up the mountain and had reached mid station level by the time I came off the slopes.
Frozen death-cookies, hard skatey bits and piles of sandy slush were the order of the morning. What fun!

Conrod Straight - the groomers were best this morning
There was a real sheen to the off piste - looking towards Sponars
Tomorrow's races (Top to Bottom and the inter-club) will be interesting, depending upon what the weather does tonight.
