No Chance for a Sleep-in

I hadn’t planned doing a report today - just lazy I guess. As the day turned out to be a very pleasant surprise, I thought I had better share it.

The 7:30 snow report said 5cm of fresh on the top of the mountain. The key word here is ‘top’. The middle and bottom slopes were firm - very firm. There did not appear to be any rain damage and it wasn’t until you got above mid station on Kosi Express that you could see any new snow.

First run down the Bluff was great for a while. Fluffy soft stuff on a very firm crunchy base. The run to the bottom of the mountain told me to stay up high, which I did for the rest of my morning. There were lots of freshies in the Basin and off Karels under a deep blue sky.

Crowds quickly followed and you had to stay one jump in front to get the untracked.

My biggest mistake this morning was not taking out the 'rock-hoppers'. 5cms covers up a lot of rocks but doesn't protect your bases.

The village is 100% booked for the weekend and big crowds are promised. The only thing that will keep the lift lines short will be abominable weather and that is on the cards for Saturday together with lots more fresh snow.
