North Ramshead Double

Yesterday I went out to North Ramshead and attempted to fly my kite. Winds were at the upper limit of my flying machine and kept getting stronger. After being tossed around like a rag doll on the end of a rope, I decided to give it away. On checking the weather station on my return I saw that winds had reached 70kph.

The snow cover had vaporised a lot since Tuesday's adventure but was still so enjoyable that I went back out today.

Richard, Sally and I headed out early straight up Signature Hill and out to North Ramshead. I was amazed to see how much more snow had disappeared in the 24 hours between trips. We had a very enjoyable run down a totally untracked slope and then, out of nowhere, 2 groups of cross country skiers arrived, zigzagged up our tracks and then skied, slide and fell back down our tracks. They obviously had no idea about skier etiquette or thought that the main range of the Snowy Mountains was such a small place that they were forced to ski over our tracks.

We moved on and then so did they - luckily in opposite directions. After 4 enjoyable runs off North Ramshead we headed back via Signature Hill.

Lack of fresh snow or strong winds have left the slopes smeared with the tracks accumulated over a week.

There is a slight chance of snow at the end of the long weekend - the official end to the ski season.

It's not over for me - yet, but it doesn't look like I'll get much more. I plan to publish some interesting facts in my next reports, so stay tuned.
