All Systems Go
The official start to the 2006 snow season is upon us. The resorts are ready to go. Perisher Blue has already opened a lift on Front Valley and the word is out that Friday Flat and Merritts will be open this weekend in Thredbo for boarding and skiing.
I took a ride up the Kozi Express this afternoon and must say that the quality of the snow at the top is quite impressive. It has packed down but is still dry on top - not like Australian snow at all. The temperature actually broke 0C today reaching +1.3 but not for long. Clouds began building this afternoon and the forecast is for possible rain on Saturday followed by snow on Sunday down to 1200m.
Other ski runs could possibly be opened if enough snow is made, but I doubt it. The Supertrail from Snowgums top station to Bunny Walk station looked nice.
Then of course there are all the other events coming up: the music, the dinners, the ball, the blessing of the snow, the fireworks and all those other usual long weekend bits and pieces.

With many of you coming back to Thredbo for the first time in a while, you will be encountering the new winter entry fee prices for the Kosciuszko National Park (KNP). Many of us believe these prices are unjustifiable and unfair. A petition will be circulated during the snow season requesting the government drop the entrance fees. Watch out for the petition and sign it.
There will be some web pages soon at: http://www.vacantmoments.com/knp
