The Winds Persist
Monday afternoon it snowed. Quite heavily at times but the front was narrow and the snowfall did not continue into the night. We had about 10cm and it smartened up the village and slopes.
Tuesday morning with the sun shining, it seemed that every local managed to get out for freshies. It was a mixed bag. The wind that had continued to blow after the snowfall caused some areas to be heavily wind packed if not converted to sastrugi. Areas out of the wind were not as dry as expected and trapped many an unwary rider as their feet sunk into the unforgiving snow.
The Golf Course had everything and was enjoyable although you had to stay alert for the ever-changing conditions. The out-track was a bit gnarly and I hit one big rock on one exit.
Today the wind was back up into the 50kph range and the temperature above zero for the first time in a long while. The wind drifts were great and the groomers ensured the piste was fun. The off piste was still OK up high but the wind has caused variable conditions to persist throughout.
Monday afternoon – snowing
Tuesday – Funnel Web exit
FIS races yesterday and today
Valley Fog – southern aspect
Golf Course on Tuesday
Wednesday – Tower 10 with a good cover
Wind blown on Sponars
And more
And even more
Forecast is for rain on Thursday night into Friday. Hopefully we will get some snow. A lot of snow was made last night and if temperatures permit there will still be good snow to ride on into the village.
Friday AM update: Very windy, no rain so far. Only 6 lifts open.
