A Major Improvement
With nothing much on the immediate horizon I went to Canberra on Sunday and Sydney on Monday arriving back on Tuesday evening. The winds driving up the Thredbo Valley were possibly the strongest I have ever encountered. It was half raining and half sleeting. The slopes did not look good at I approached the village. The rain turned to snow later last night.
This morning there was snow all over the village and 25cm up top in a cold air mass of –5C with a wind-chill of –25C. Snowgums was first option as de-icing of Kosi chair was going to take a while. My first two runs were fantastic. The snow was light and dry until below mid station. I had my knee disappear under the snow a couple of times on the steeper slopes.
Kosi chair eventually got going and then so did the upper T-bars. Golf Course was wind-packed but delightful until the tree line where it was deep and light.
How good was it – the sun came out and very few others were anywhere near me. The run out was somewhat scratchy as was getting off funnel web. I hit several rocks.
It is snowing again – heavily now. Tomorrow will be … well I guess it depends on the wind. Chains were required into all resorts today and there was even snow on some roads out of Cooma.
