A Familiar Pattern

Monday and Tuesday followed on in the same pattern as Sunday - fine weather, clear skies and hard packed snow. Some man made snow was produced at night but this was mainly concentrated on keeping Friday Flat open. The Kosciuszko Express quad has been loading and down-loading at mid station and although this means the chair runs at half speed it does keep the resort linked to all open areas. High Noon remains closed as does the Supertrail below mid station.

School holiday crowds are very evident in the Basin and Merritts area with long queues on the lifts. The wind started to pick up on Tuesday and small dry wind drifts where appearing below the top ridge of Sponars, Antons and the like. Wednesday, the base was softer and the dry snow a little damper. You could certainly get a better edge (still haven’t tuned the rock hoppers yet) than over the past days. With the softer snow comes the unfortunate fact that the snow base disappears at a fast rate.

There were some light showers on Wednesday but the air temperature has been simply too warm for snow to fall or be made.

That’s now changed. It is much colder and snow is falling in the village and starting to accumulate on the lower slopes. The forecast is for significant snowfalls over the next 48 hours.
