A Snowy Ride Indeed

The rains stopped by Friday evening prior to many of the bikers on the Snowy Ride arriving. However, later Friday night it snowed on the upper slopes and it was quite cold, windy and wet on Saturday with a -20C wind-chill up top. This created a real trial for those bikers wishing to go out on the road to complete the official section of the Snowy Ride. The official count was 2488 bikers all raising money for the Children’s Cancer Institute of Australia.

The presentation and afternoon entertainment was moved from a rather sodden Village Green to the Village Square. Later on Saturday night was the Jimmy Barnes concert – live in the Village Square. God must like to listen to Jimmy as the rain stopped just prior to the concert start and held off until a few minutes after Jimmy and band had departed. It was a great night with a huge crowd braving the cold night air. I’ve never seen so much leather at a rock concert.

Sunday arrived with strong winds and low cloud covering the top of the peaks but at least it was much dryer providing the bikers with reasonable conditions to leave the village in. As for skiing … even though it is supposedly the last day that Kosi chair runs before a few weeks maintenance, we could not bring ourselves to venture out into the 50kph+ head winds and cloud for a ski on the new snow. May be tomorrow?

It was great to see so many people donating their time, effort and money to such a special cause. Special thanks to Jimmy for another great concert done for free. Jimmy says he will be back again next year. We are already looking forward to it.
