A surprise snow fall on Friday afternoon freshened up the upper slopes and brought a little magic to the lower slopes and village if only for 18 hours.

Due to other commitments I didn’t get up on the mountain on Saturday but certainly got out there on Sunday. There was not a lot of the new snow to be seen but freezes over the previous two nights had helped the snow pack solidify and consequently improved the quality of turns put in.

We walked out to the base of Signature Hill and skinned up the face to put in some nice runs. The fresh snow was a little slower but overall the snow was the firmest and fastest it has been in several weeks.

The weather was cool and mostly sunny with a thin layer of high cloud today. There was some cloud building in the south but it had not reached the resort before we came back.

The thaw has been extremely rapid this spring and I was surprised to see how much had disappeared on the main range in the past week.

A scarred Signature Hill should recover quickly with tomorrow’s new snow

There has been a lot of heated discussions over the last season about the appearance on the Thredbo slopes of terrain parks, slope-style courses, half pipes, rail parks and the like. Personally the only issue I had was with the location of the slope-style course which virtually split the Central Spur area in to two separate resorts and prevented top to bottom fall line skiing & boarding between Sponars and Antons T-bars.

If you have an opinion about the physical changes to the Thredbo slopes this year then I suggest you let the company (Kosciusko Thredbo) know about it. I’m sure that all praise and constructive criticism will be seriously considered. After all, it’s you the ticket purchaser that is the most important thing in regards to the decisions made next year.
