The Blue, Blue Skies Of Thredbo
The weekend was bathed in sunshine. Saturday was as close to perfect, weather-wise, as one could hope for with little to no breeze, cool dry air, blue skies and lovely sunshine. As a result of the previous week’s snowfalls and the weather, many skiers and boarders were out for the day. Lift lines were long and the slopes somewhat crowded but everyone looked like they were having a good time.
The inter-club races had a good following and from what I hear went off without any troubles.
On Sunday a very weak front tried to influence the resort. The wind picked up and the wind chill up top was down below –20C whilst in the valley (out of the wind) it was nice and warm. The winds kept the crowds away from the upper T-bars but the chairs were very popular.
The snow depth around the resort is great and you can still ski and board into the village down any run or gap in the trees. The wind drifts have been delightful and the groomers fantastic.
Out of the resort conditions are also very nice. Lower slopes on Saturday tended to be on the heavy side due to excess moisture but the higher areas were dry windblown. Fog rolled in on Saturday afternoon and again on Sunday and it even snowed lightly around Dead Horse Gap while the sunshine fell over Thredbo.

Sunday’s predicted late change had little effect but the 5cm dusting overnight for Monday morning was appreciated. Forecasters have more snow coming Thursday – Friday. I guess that’s just in preparation for the Top-To-Bottom race next Saturday. Do you remember last year's dump prior to and during the race?
