When You Just Can't Say 'No'

Yesterday was a repeat of Monday – a beautiful, warm, blue-sky morning with just a trace of cool breeze. I couldn’t resist the temptation to join Marion for a run to Dead Horse Gap – the long way.

We headed out from Eagle’s Nest mid morning and skinned our way towards North Ramshead. The snow cover was soft but mostly not sticky. After climbing a peak just south of North Ramshead and looking at our options we did a few turns down towards Middle Ramshead. Another short climb had us looking down towards Dead Horse Gap. A wonderful descent, done in two stages, placed us on Bogong Creek. The traverse out from here was slow as the snow has a layer of charcoal and dust on it and eventually the snow made way for grass as we hiked out the last 400m to the bridge.

It was warm out of the breeze but as the patchy cloud appeared the sun’s effect was reduced. The winter gear has been put away and has been replaced by the Spring touring clothes, hat and sunnies.

The forecast is for heavy rain over the next 24 hours. Hopefully it will be cold enough to snow up top and enhance the cover rather than destroy it. Currently it is raining in the village.
