Like the Karate Kid
I've felt like the Karate Kid over the past days - fleece out, fleece in, fleece out - vents open, vents closed, vents open. The temperatures have been jumping all over the place as has the wind and judging how much to wear is becoming an art form.
As an example; the temperature up top was above zero for almost the past 24 hours. Yesterday the cover was soft pretty much from the start and by midday was getting distinctly sticky off piste. So this morning in a warming sun and warm breeze we expected that the cover would be slush from top to bottom. No way! It was hard and fast from top to bottom and the ever increasing tail wind helped you down hill in a rush.
We quickly jumped into the Basin hoping for softer corduroy but as the bits of cord broke off they flew up and hit you like rocks. The off piste was even firmer. I bailed for early coffee. An hour later it didn't seem much better but I was conned into a trip to DHG. The tail wind and firm snow meant we whizzed across the top of Golf Course Bowl hardly having to pole. These conditions were the complete opposite of 2 days ago when the flat sections to DHG were a hard and slow push on sticky snow.
Wednesday: the top and bottom turns to DHG were best

And a Bogong Party up the same creek
No, I did not say a Bogan Party
Yesterday the fog cleared, the wind dropped and the scene was set for

To the approval of the many spectators - these high-flyers got some really serious air
Any way you looked at it - this crew were off the planet

Despite the weather conditions, the snow pack is holding up well. There are some thinning sections on the lower man made slopes and the grass is growing nicely. Well, it is Spring after all.
Forecasters have some possible snow mid next week. Meanwhile some back country is on the cards, wind permitting.
