What Will Happen Next?

The snow pack continues to rapidly disappear. Yesterday I skied (and walked) the Supertrail three times before deciding I'd done enough sand blasting to my bases.

The Supertrail did not have continual snow to the bottom even when I was on first chair. The best of it was the light dusting of new snow on/beside the Bluff.

Today out of sheer curiosity I went and had two runs off the Basin T-bar (which was closed yesterday). The Supertrail was closed today and I'm not surprised as it was in a much worse state than yesterday.

I went out late morning, as there had been a supposed overnight freeze. The groomed trail was only recognisable because it was like a deep orange slurpy. Walking across the shrubberies I had a ski on the Rim Run above the Basin to see what the 2cms of new snow was like. In a word 'sticky'. The new snow had not bonded to the sandy base and as I traversed the Rim, the new snow dropped away. As I skied down in the soft, slow pristine white it balled up and rolled away exposing the red beneath.

I downloaded on Kosi chair - yes, it is that bad.

Tim Bailey last night spoke of a possible 50cm of snow coming. The bureau is talking about 20cm and down as low as 900m. There is also a lot of rain forecast, not too mention the gale force winds and another dust storm.

What will happen over the next 3 days and nights? I have no idea but I'm sure it will be interesting. Will I get to ski in the resort again this year? I've now been out on 93 days but can't see how I will get another 7 in the resort to make an even 100.

I'm not holding my breath for any back country touring either. I've never seen the same conditions as we are currently experiencing in Thredbo or indeed the entire Snowy Mountains.

If you didn't see Wednesday's report you should check out the amazing colour transformations on the slopes. Click here.
