Where Have All The People Gone?

Clear blue skies and a not unpleasant fresh breeze to temper the strong sun persisted right through the weekend.

OK, the snow did soften up a lot, even to the point of being sticky under foot but the cover was good. The groomers have been doing a fantastic job keeping ‘top to bottom’ conditions. High Noon remained open, although you had a little walk at the bottom. Sundowner has finally shut but the Crackenback Supertrail is still easily navigable. Still my rock hoppers remain in their cage.

So considering everything where were the crowds? Saturday had bigger numbers than today but even so there were no lift lines or congestion of any slopes. You could ski straight onto any lift and then get freshies on numerous slopes. That being said, I must admit that the groomed runs were generally less sticky that off piste. My favourite today would have to be Lenny's Leap at Antons followed by the old T-bar line at Merritts.

Last night saw the last party in the Keller bar for the 2002 winter season. And a great night it was. The place was packed and we were all very disappointed when the DJ had spun his last disc about 2:30am. Many continued to party on till dawn and there were some sorry sights on the slopes this morning.

The warm winds have unfortunately stripped some of the new snow away to reveal that brown tinged stuff once again. The forecast for the next two days is not good (showers) but with a little luck and colder air we may see snow later in the week. Fingers crossed.
