The Cold Returns

After missing yesterday - several reputable reports said that yesterday afternoon was even better than Sunday afternoon’s snow conditions - and the 5cms of new snow, I expected something lovely up high this morning.

However, the moisture in the new snow together with -7C temps managed to set the mountainside into a very firm block. The off piste looked very inviting but turned out to be very firm. You could edge in it but my skis hardly left a mark on the smooth hard surface. With heavy clouds rolling over and obscuring the sun it didn’t look like there would be much softening but in time the snow did relent. The groomed runs (still with a good cover top to bottom) were best till late morning.

Some more of the lower runs have been closed due to lack of snow. Little Beauty and True Blue are only open to mid station on Crackenback as the run out past Tower 10 on Ramshead is now devoid of snow.

The great news was that the snowmakers fired up the machinery last night and made a stack of white stuff mostly on the lower slopes where it is most needed.
