Sugar and Ice and Everything ...
We had good frosts on several mornings followed by some nice sunny periods over the previous few days. The snow was firm and groomed, although World Cup has been closed for FIS races. I tried to get some photos of the race action but every time I rode the chair they were having a break.
When I came off the mountain yesterday and was asked what the snow was like, I replied "Sugar and Ice". In truth it was more like sugar and polished concrete - very Spring-like.
Then last night I was awoken at 1am to what sounded like a monsoon then the wind shook the building before everything went quiet and dark.
Some 20mm of rain and hail with 119kph winds. The temperature up top remained above 0C all night. I don't know for how long I was left in the dark but the black-out of Thredbo was quite eerie with the only lights being those of the headlights of the snow cats on the mountain.
When the sun rose I found my clock flashing away, indicating that the power was back on. The sight outside was not what anyone wanted to see. What a strange season it has been. I can't remember so much rain.
Meadows on Monday and again Tuesday
Looking up The Schuss yesterday (Tuesday)

More FIS races on World Cup today (Wednesday)
The snow base has been flushed away AGAIN
We await the forecast snow, not that we have any faith in the forecasts any more :-(
The temperature up top has finally dropped sub zero this morning, the wind has dropped down to the 70s and the wind chill sits around -12C. Hopefully now too cold to rain any more.
