Snow, Sun And More Snow
It was snowing on Monday morning and the strong wind meant a wind chill of -21C up top. The visibility was very poor and Evil Way was a real mess with huge wind drifts and almost zero vis. The groomers with about 5cm of dry fresh on top were great. I did one run up The Basin T-bar but vis was less than 3m at the top, although I did enjoy a lovely run down Cannonball.
Tuesday morning was a complete contrast. The sun was shining and the sky was clear and blue. The wind had dropped a fair bit and the snow base was squeaky dry in the -10C temps. Fresh snow and great vis made for great skiing, especially on Karels which had been closed on Monday. The crowds soon built on The Basin T-bar and so after coffee Marion and I headed off to Dead Horse Gap. The snow cover and quality was a treat. We didn't encounter any other tracks until the bottom.
The clouds rolled back in and today it was snowing again. It's still snowing as I type. The visibility was again very poor although a fraction better than on Monday. Again, the groomers with fresh snow were great for the first 4 or 5 runs off the top and then the fresh started to get pushed off the very firm base underneath. There are still the odd ice sheet between the wind blown drifts.
I did my first run into Golf Course for the season. The cover is good but the run-out track is ... as so often it is ... crap.
It was a chilly -9C at Dead Horse Gap on Tuesday morning when we did the car drop
But first there were freshies on Karels to be had

Marion way above Bogong Creek
Lovely snow as we dropped down towards Bogong Creek
More glorious light snow on a packed base in the tree line
Untracked slopes at every turn
There is a very good cover all the way to the bottom

Note the animal tracks jumping the creek

Yes, I'm back in Thredbo, hopefully for a reasonable period of time. I still have issues to deal with in Sydney but they shouldn't require as much time as the past 8 months.
More snow is forecast with a clearing in the weather on Saturday for the Top-To-Bottom race and the inter-club races.
