Back To Sunshine
After the light rains from Monday to Tuesday morning the sun reappeared and snow making has been back in production since the high pressure moved in on Wednesday with a cold snap and clear skies.
The groomers have been fast but carveable. The fresh morning corduroy was scrapped off after a couple of hours leaving behind that spring sugar snow.
The off piste remains solid. The wind chill overnight dropped to -12C and I wasn't overdressed this morning with the fleece liner still in my parka.
It was wet snow on Sunday and someone was certainly going to have cold feet
Amazing icicles revealed after the damp of Monday & Tuesday was snap frozen under a big high pressure system
Everyone came out once the sun returned but queues have not been a problem
The main range has remained very firm since the freeze
My pick of the runs today was the groomer from the top of Karels through the rocks,
over the Rim (top right) to the top of Ramshead chair (via skier's right of the big rocks)
Sunshine, great groomers and frozen bump runs - what more could you ask for ?
Sundance was also a treat
Meadows snow base depth today - dropping unfortunately
I can't make head or tail of the forecasts - they change so fast. Generally there does not appear much in the way of new snow coming for a couple of weeks. Assuming the southern hemisphere continues to follow the pattern set by the northern hemisphere winter, we should expect decent snow falls late in September and into October.
