A Big Dump On Bank Holiday

Well it came. Following rain, the snow started on Sunday and continued through Monday, despite the photos of the brief sunshine below. The company reported 55cms up top and 20cms in the village for the 24 hours to Monday morning. I can confirm that I found depths of this magnitude but the strong wind was moving it about so there were some almost bare patches as well. Bank Holiday long weekend meant extra punters for the first runs. I got down to the queue around 8:10 and already it was big. The serious contenders started queuing just after 7am. Proceedings were slightly delayed but tolerably so. Jax started the queue just after 7am and got poll position. Randy & Duncan who turned up at 8:25 saw such a long queue that they went for the Snowgums option.

Evil Way was reasonable, Little Merritts was sweet, as was World Cup and then I crossed to the BagJump run, normally fenced off, but I noticed on the way up that it wasn’t and as it is never skied anymore I got some nice deep tracks. Second run was True Blue and still large pockets of untouched. Ski Patrol were busy from the start carrying away the over enthusiastic who couldn’t match the conditions.

By the time I reached the top of Karels for freshies the vis was gone and here I met Jax and friends - blind leading the blind through variable conditions. The wind had started to form a crust in places, while out of the wind the snow was deep and lighter.

Tuesday brought lots more snow and chaos on the roads - some just don’t learn - others simply don’t know. Final count in excess of 1metre up top in 48 hours.

The sun was out today but drizzle in the village made going heavy from the reports I have received
