Injury Week?

Following Race Week we have had “Injury Week”. First off the rank was George (see last report) who is recovering well. Since then there was John with a chipped pelvis not to mention Kosi staffers: Emma and Jason. There were a few big slides on the frozen slopes on Saturday. Ski Patrol were quick to close off certain areas most at risk to a “big slide” but there’s always somewhere waiting to catch you out.

The SouthCare helicopter was in on Saturday afternoon and our thoughts went to John but he missed out of the joy flight preferring to take the ground transport to Cooma hospital.

So, there has been rain followed by new snow and a good deal of wind drifts that gave us more of “join the dots” skiing. Jerry and I did 2 runs to DHG yesterday. Yes, it was that good and having transport laid on by Marion and The Chooks it was too much to resist.

Today, the snow was very different. The early runs were best off piste. Strange to be saying this but off piste was softer than the groomers. The Bluff and Kareela Face were simply fun as the ice layer shattered and tinkled down the steeper faces like broken glass in front of you. Karels and the drop into the Basin were technical and yet a lot of fun. The slope broke and rattled around you but it wasn’t true breakable-crust, it was carvable.

Traktorman may have left prematurely as Rinda, Paolo and I had a very enjoyable ski today.

There are several holes appearing in the base even up top in the Basin. These holes reveal a base that is only around 15cm deep even at the top of the resort.

The forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday looks very inviting with potentially a lot of snow coming our way, however, based upon recent forecasts I’m not holding my breath.

Thought for an evening: As Mr Rudd presses ahead with his ETS, I ask myself if his claim of the risk from CO2 will end up being his party’s version of their predecessor's “Gases of mass destruction”. Meanwhile, if everyone only breathes out on every second breath then we will cut CO2 emissions in half. If half the world’s population stop breathing out altogether then …
