Big Blue Hair Dryer Continues
The weather has remained unchanged for weeks save for the wind going up and down. The snow pack is melting rapidly, sorry to say. I have seen 50cm disappear from the main range in a matter of days. The ridges are copping the worst of the hair dryer. It was cold enough for a short while last night to make some snow down low. A temperature inversion had the village 5 degrees colder than the top at one stage this morning.
The weather was, however, perfect for today's Memorial Cup race day, held on the best groomed and preserved snow on the mountain. A good crowd turned out and many in a wonderful array of attire based on the equine flu theme.
Snow conditions are firm for a short while each morning and then progressively get softer and wetter. Very typical late September conditions exist. More runs and lifts are closing due to the thinning snow. Some lifts were closed today when winds reached gale force.
