VALE Kurt Lance
News spread quickly in Thredbo this morning that Kurt Lance had passed away last night. A well known identity in Thredbo and alpine areas in general, patron of Thredbo Historical Society, and so much more. The best I can do here is send you to this recent and very well written article in the Telegraph: A True Giant Of This Nation

Condolences to Dorothy and family.
For those coming to the Thredbo Historical Society Mid-Winter dinner and book launch of Kurt Lance's book - I will endeavour to post more information when I get it.
Wednesday: 'Balls to the Wall' above the Basin, looking spectacular
It was skied later after I'd gone
Snow cats pushing snow uphill yesterday to get Karels open today
Looking towards Cootapatamba Valley from the top of Pyramid
(these days known as North Ramshead )
Looking from Pyramid back towards the top of Sig Hill
Looking towards Jindy from Pyramid
and Pyramid from the Kosi side

There is no Kosi cornice since the rains

I found some great long runs away from the crowds and between the rocks
The Basin T-bar started operating again this week. Karels reopened today and I got a few nice turns between the rocks and the snow quarries produced to get the lift operational after all the rain.
I went touring out from Karels today and the main range snow is mostly very soft. So soft that you can sink through to the granite underbelly with ease.
The thin cover is playing havoc with my rock hoppers. I hit a rock yesterday in the Basin, on one Little Merritts the day before and had a huge base grind behind Sashas today. My rock hoppers are now in surgery at Ronnie's. Rocky, who sees the damage coming in every day to Ronnie's workshop hasn't taken his new skis out yet.
