Oh Yeah!

Lots of new snow and I headed out early. The 120kph winds from yesterday had dropped to only 1/3 of that. Things looked promising however, it appears that KT staff were caught off guard again - Kosi chair needed de-icing. At 8:20am I left my position 22 in the Kosi queue and took up position 6 in the Slowbums queue. I must admit I wasn’t looking forward to having to ride the snow covered/ice laden chairs to the top of Snowgums but hey, it was to be an awesome powder day.

As things turned out, I ended up on 2nd chair and there were only boarders in front of me. You know what that meant? Which run to have to myself? Everything looked enticing. Although the Supertrail and other runs had been groomed over night the latest snow had fallen on top of that meaning freshies which ever way I went with the exception of upper True Blue which I found out later had been groomed late.

I meandered down the centre of the untracked Supertrail occasionally glimpsing a ski patroller track beside the rope line. Otherwise, it was all mine. I thought of stopping to take a photo but figured there had to be others hot on my heels. OK, so I didn’t quite meander ;-)

At the bottom, Kosi still hadn’t begun to rack-on so I jumped back onto Slowbums after only a short wait in the queue and went up for more freshies. Then I joined what turned out to be about a 30 minute queue on Kosi to get to the Bluff - my first time this season. The snow was heavier than I expected - probably due to the wind. Everywhere else I went today the snow felt lighter and drier, although quite wind packed in places. More runs, coffee and then the Basin finally opened. It seemed an eternity before Marion and I got onto the Rim Run for more untracked. The queue here soon built to unbearable length and just when I thought I would take my last run, Karels T-bar finally opened, after being closed for days, and the sun broke through the cloud. Oh so nice. The queue here soon dissipated (probably into the closed Golf Course) and Marion and I did about 6 untracked runs on Karels before returning to base.

All in all my biggest and best day of the season thus far!

Tomorrow Frank Prihoda turns 90. He has been seen out on the slopes this week supposedly practising for his race tomorrow or may be just enjoying the powder like the rest of us.

Look out for the period costume and old time racers on the slopes tomorrow.

Rumour: A little bird told me third-hand that Dave & Penny (former owners of Eagles Nest) have had a baby son. Congratulations!
