The Schoolies Are Gone And The Wind Is Back
The school holidays are over and the crowds have gone. The weekend queues on Kosi chair were almost non-existent - just lovely. With limited numbers on the slopes early each morning the skiing was like we remember from the past - several fast runs before coffee. Traktorman was well pleased with the conditions on Saturday and Sunday was more of the same.
I had my first ski on the Bluff for the season. It was slow work getting in over the ice and grass between the rocks and it was slow getting out onto Kareela Face where the rope line took you but the half dozen turns or so on the Bluff were very enjoyable - wind blown powder on a firm smooth base. The wind is finally back and is starting to fill in the gaps. Antons T-bar opened for the first time but I wasn’t overly impressed with my one and only run on Saturday. High Noon was great and the new snow has opened up the other runs at Merritts that don’t have snowmaking on them.
This morning was sweet with 1cm of creamy fresh on smooth cord. I didn’t make first, second or even third chair as Kosi opened early but there were still freshies left for me. Unfortunately Eagle Way is still running thin but now the wind has started filling Little Merritts, the bumps are a better place to be off Eagle Way.
Merritts chair has had a technical hitch and is now out of action until the cable is respliced. This explains the increase in foot passengers on Kosi chair.

Did you notice the amount of blue sky in the photos above? And for your information: The Schuss, Dream Run, Cannonball & FunnelWeb are all closed runs and for very good reasons.
We are still waiting for more snow. The bureau said it would come. Meanwhile work continues farming snow in The Basin. The Ts are on but still more snow is needed before opening.
It appears to be Birthday Season with Marion's last Saturday, Julie's last Friday, Jill's last Wednesday while Traktorman's and Tommy's are getting close.
Best Wishes to Luke G42 for a quick recovery after his bad stack last week.
