Mondayitis
I only did a report last night (click here) but thought I'd better pop up another for all those who went home last night and this morning. A good day to take that sickie.
It started snowing early this morning and has kept blowing and snowing and is still snowing and the forecast is for more and more. I'd estimate 15cm up top and 5-10cm on middle slopes. Mixed with the windblown drifts there were some really nice turns to be had.
I did my best so far this season and got on second Kosi chair this morning and with a bunch of boarders on the chair ahead of me I got first run down the mountain on a bed of untracked velvet over groom. My first 3 runs were pretty much untracked all the way except for Milk Run. After the fourth inside the first hour I decided to venture out into the blizzard.
The basin was the best it has been all year but visibility was poor. I headed for Sponars and the tree lines were boot deep and untouched. Vis at top of the T-bars was close to zero and surprise wind drifts kept one's knees really bent.
It was all good, Powder Bowl, Wiamea, Antons, Sponars and even my last run down the Supertrail was still enjoyable as constant snow and wind covered over the very uncrowded slopes.
Supertrail below Bunny Walk
Ski Patrol getting first tracks
Milk Run
Trashing everything in sight - on what was grass yesterday
Cat Walk looking great
Snow gathering in the village
Skiers on Lovers Leap Bypass
Smiles all round. There is a very cold wind chill but the snow is dry and getting deeper by the hour.
