Not In Living Memory
I cannot remember another year when on the first day of Kosi chair opening for the season, that every - and I mean 'every' - line from the top was open and skiable.
Truly remarkable. The only bad part was that I was trashed before 10:30 - so out of condition. The snow was 'deep' and got heavier towards the bottom.
The visibility wasn't very good up top and I'll admit I hit both an 'Ingrid' and a 'reverse Ingrid' on separate runs. If you don't know, I'll explain at another time. Even a snow cat slid off Eagle Way last night.
I honestly encountered drifts over a metre deep and even the groomers had a dusting on top first-up. It was smiles and yahoos all round :-)
I didn't take any photos up top due to vis and blowing snow. Here's a few from the first couple of hours:
Lower Sundance & High Noon early this morning
Looking up Snowgums chair
You can just make out the lights of a groomer near Kareela Hutte
I was back about 4 chairs because I honestly didn't think they'd start on time
Approaching mid station on Kosi chair - note wombat tracks under station
Close up of mid station snow waves
World Cup on second ride up
Hump Run
Lower World Cup on third ride up
Little Beauty but it got heavy towards the bottom
More Little Beauty when it was so untracked even after 10am
It snowed lightly last night and is still dropping the odd flake today. There is still a lot of snow forecast over the coming days. 50-70cms by Sunday depending on whose forecast you read.
The word is that all lifts should be operational by mid next week :-) I expect a huge lift queue on Friday and Saturday mornings.
We still have an apartment available for the weekend 11th - 12th July and special offers after that.
Ring (02) 6457-6806 or 0412 553 011. Get in quickly - bookings are now going really fast :-)
