Packing Down

Three days after last weekend’s great fall of snow and the groomers have been packing down the base. The weather has been packing down the off-piste but not to the point of making the experience unpleasant.

This morning, the place to be was on the groomed runs. The on-piste was smooth, dry, carveable, high speed corduroy and with minimal folk on the slopes you could take advantage of the fantastic conditions – top to bottom.

Even True Blue has been groomed last night and the night before. Good conditions exist from Eagle Way all the way down to the bottom of Sundowner. Open runs include Dream Run and The Schuss. How good is that for this time of year?

There are a few thin spots, the most notable being at Ski-In Ski-Out at the bottom of the Supertrail but generally the runs have a good covering, considering it is only June. Due to warm temperatures there has been very little snowmaking but a 24-hour stretch of cold air would allow the snowmakers to cover the thin spots.

The Ts are back on both Antons and Basin T-bars and the cats have been busy around Karels so hopefully we will see them open soon.

As I write this report there is high cloud around and the wind has really picked up to the point of closing the Kosciuszko Express. The official reports are calling for rain tomorrow as the next front moves in with snow lowering below 1500m down to 1200m on Friday, ready for another weekend.
