A Few Days On
Monday arrived and I was too busy to ski but I did have a quick trip up and back on the chair. It was a beautiful day on the range.
The forecast for Tuesday was "partly cloudy" and "light winds". The day dawned looking like Monday but by the time I reached the top of the chair around 9:20 there was a bank of dark cloud rolling in and the wind was up and coming from the South - so quite chilly. I boot packed out to the hill and found the snow much better than on Friday. Soft but not sticky - there wasn't much of the "white" stuff left and even what was there was almost as fast as the "brown".
Four runs later (around 2200 vertical steps up the hill) I had to return to work - exercise completed.
Today broke like the previous two mornings with a crystal clear blue sky. One look at the graphs showing wind up to 60 kph and temperature already at 8C I decided I wasn't going out.
Monday: Looking at the hill from Eagles nest - no sign of Friday's tracks
Looking across Central Spur to Sponars and Antons T-bars
Tuesday: Approaching the "climb". 500 steps up for a short run and 700 for a long
View from the top back towards Eagles Nest as the cloud moved in
The North Face was delightful
8s on the steeper part of the Main Face and one down the centre
Followed by a gentle run back towards the walking track
So much easier than last Friday
My work is done as the sun starts to peek through the cloud
Today - Wednesday
Yes there's still snow at the top of the Kosi chair
The forecasts don't look conducive for touring for several days but considering how wrong they have been recently, I'll take it, like everything else, day by day.
