One Last Fling?

I awoke on Saturday morning to a fresh dusting of snow all the way down into the village. The visibility was not good and it kept snowing very lightly on and off all morning. Unlike Lynne, who went out to ski Summer Drift on Saturday (did you see my last report?), I decided that Sunday might be more enjoyable.

The temperature at Eagles Nest dropped to –10C early this morning and by the time we headed out (10:30am) the temp had jumped 16C to a pleasant +6C with a mild wind-chill of +1C. We got a few strange looks as we strolled out with skis on our backpacks. The snow had a 2cm soft surface on top of a firm base. Ray and I had 4 very enjoyable runs before we stopped for a short snack with the girls who had decided to not indulge in today’s fun in the sun.

I managed 20 turns on my first run but I suspect I did less on consequent runs as we played with the remains of the boarders' kicker in the middle of the slope.

In short we had a great time. Sorry to see it go.

I find it hard to believe that I actually got to have a ski and find it even harder to believe that we are still in October and there is hardly a patch of snow left anywhere in Australia.
